Popular San Francisco Blog House Era All-Ages Party BLOW UP SF is dead.
Published on Sunday 3/7/2010 @ 4:16 PM by the ALT REPORT Robot
BLOW UP SF was one of the most popular bloghouse + electro era parties in the entire world. Capitalizing on the dense electro teen + bro demographic in California, it became a ‘hot spot’ in San Francisco, even to the point where there was a ‘backlash’ when it was ‘too mainstream.’ The party booked the most relevant acts of the electro / blog house era, helping to ‘take the international scene’ 2 a new level. Does n e 1 know if this party shut down because it got ‘too big/popular’? Will there be a ‘rebranding’? Did 2 of the promoters get in some sort of legal battle over who deserves what? Were ‘the cops’ going to shut down this party [via fire hazzards]?
The video embedded above seems like a meaningful tribute, using old clips + pictures, trying to preserve the brand forever. However, the true essence of the party brand can be appreciated in this video of Steve Aoki + Uffie performing at their party.
Will the world be a sadder place without BLOWUP SF, or was it just another place where tweens went to do drugs and do a lil bit of underaged drinking?

Are electro weekly/monthly parties still relevant, or are the an ironic/vintage event of the past?
Do yall still get tons of FB invitations from local regional party promoters?
Do yall miss electro, or will there be a ‘revival’ in the next 3-10 years?

the party got shut down because there was a ‘homo-thug’ party at the club that turned into a riot and now the cops are cracking down on the venue

Well here is the inside story. BlowUp was insanely popular with the 18+ age group. It used to be a once a month party and then it turned into a weekly thing. They made good cover on the door, besides the occasional fights, drug issue or passed out kid everything was well.
Rickshaw Stop has a lot of other parties/nights/concerts and owing to BlowUp it was developing a reputation of being a club for kids. Thus cannibalizing their more lucrative events (21+ over). Plus they were tired of dealing with underage drinking.
It wasn’t the fire marshall.

Also, Rickshaw doesn’t serve food, which is a requisite of 18+ clubs in SF.

@Anonyourmom., They do serve food.
From the website: “We are a nightclub, bar and restaurant in Hayes Valley, San Francisco.
We are open Wednesday thru Saturday plus other special days.”
