Die Antwoord is a popular rap group from South Africa. The recently ‘went viral’, gaining attention from numerous media outlets and blogs all around the world. Even though they seem like a deliberately marketed product, it will be interesting to track their path to the mainstream as directed by their PR firm / brand manager / band manager.

Die Antwoord played their first US show at Cinespace in Los Angeles. Cinespace is widely known as one of the most important electro clubs of the blog house era. The performance was apparently a ’secret show’, which was intended to generate buzz throughout the internet. At the moment, the footage captured seems mediocre, but it still seems ‘worth blurbing about’, since 2k10 is all about finding new content/bands to cover.

@gross, i like that they’re not the typical american rappers rapping about bitches and hoes and covered in gold (and covered in bitches and gold). it’s refreshing.
but i get the feeling that people just like listening to Die Antwoord, because they’re foreign (that makes you so much cooler.) but, you can still understand them.

Personally, i think The Jeugd van Tegenwoordig ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjER3EX948w ) are the best rappers out there, but they’re Dutch, so i wouldn’t expect anybody to listen to them, because you can’t understand them.

The point i’m trying to make: i don’t think in terms of quality of music Die Antwoord is overrated. People listen to them because they’re foreign and not covered in gold, bitches and hoes.

@aha, they are portraying what usa rappers all about bitches, bling and gold do to zef (do the research) people in other countries who listen to that style of music too much. they are an ironic group, just having fun with zef south african culture. they aren’t trying to be noticed as the best rappers in the world.
